Rooted in Community: How Marvin Gardens Gives Back in Longmont
At Marvin Gardens Real Estate, our mission extends beyond helping people buy, sell, or manage property. We believe that building a strong community is just as important as building strong housing—and that means showing up, giving back, and investing in the place we call home.
For us, real estate isn’t just about closing deals. It’s about connection. Over the years, we’ve built long-term relationships with clients, neighbors, and organizations who care deeply about this community. And in that process, we’ve come to see that housing and community go hand in hand. The more we strengthen one, the stronger the other becomes.
Whether it’s serving meals, planting trees, or supporting housing programs, we’re proud to play a small part in the good happening all around Longmont.
Growing Community, One Tree at a Time
One of our most meaningful contributions was supporting a tree-planting initiative in Stone Canyon, a neighborhood working to recover from wildfire damage. As part of a larger community-wide restoration effort, over 3,000 trees were planted with the help of local volunteers—including our team and supporters from the Marvin Gardens network.
The project brought together families, kids, long-time residents, and new faces. People came not for recognition or reward, but because they love where they live. The trees themselves will grow for generations, but the real impact comes from the connections made that day.
Supporting Local Housing Nonprofits
We know firsthand that housing stability changes lives. That’s why we’re proud to support several incredible organizations working tirelessly to provide shelter, resources, and hope to our neighbors in need.
- HOPE (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement): Through volunteer shifts and financial support, we’ve stood behind HOPE’s mission to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in Boulder County. From driving support vans to serving warm meals, our team has seen how a little kindness can go a long way.
- OUR Center: Every year, OUR Center provides food, clothing, job assistance, and emergency housing support to families in Longmont. We’ve been honored to support their community dinners—especially during the holidays—and continue to contribute to their broader mission through donations and outreach.
- The Inn Between: When people need temporary housing during life transitions, The Inn Between offers a safe and supportive landing place. We’ve collaborated with them to place transitional tenants in rental properties when possible, helping to bridge a difficult moment with dignity and stability.
- Habitat for Humanity: We’ve partnered with Habitat both financially and physically—joining volunteer build days to help construct homes for local families. It’s one of the most direct, hands-on ways we can live out our belief that everyone deserves a place to call home.
- Up the Ladder Fund: At Marvin Gardens, we saw a gap in the housing system—many hardworking individuals didn’t qualify for subsidies but still couldn’t afford a down payment. To help bridge that gap, we created the Up the Ladder Fund, which provided targeted support to individuals in the “missing middle.” By helping more people take that crucial first step toward homeownership, the fund reflects our commitment to expanding housing access and building long-term stability in the community.
Giving Back, Personally and Professionally
Our involvement in the community comes from the heart. It’s not about appearances—it’s about doing what feels right and showing up for the place we call home. And it’s personal.
Dave Marvin, who is himself an adopted person, has a deep personal connection to the importance of family and belonging. He proudly supports The Rooster Party’s adoption fund—a cause with ties to the owners of local favorites—The Roost and Jefe’s. Supporting families through adoption is one way he gives back to a system that shaped his own life.
In addition, Dave volunteered for several years as an English teacher with Intercambio Uniting Communities, helping immigrants and non-native speakers develop language skills and build connections in their new community.
“It’s important to me that we’re not just in the community—we’re part of it,” says Dave. “We all have something to offer, whether it’s our time, skills, or resources.”
These personal commitments reflect the same values we bring to our work with clients: listening with care, acting with purpose, and supporting people wherever they are in their journey.
A Natural Extension of Our Real Estate Mission
You might wonder why a real estate company is so focused on volunteering. The answer is simple: we believe that housing and community are deeply connected.
When people have stable housing, they’re more able to participate in and contribute to their neighborhoods. And when communities thrive, so do the people who live there. As real estate professionals, we’re in a unique position to support both.
Our community work also shapes how we approach real estate. It keeps us grounded in empathy. It reminds us that every transaction has a story behind it. And it motivates us to help people not just find a property, but find a place where they feel they truly belong.
Why It Matters
We know that a house is only one part of what makes a home. The rest comes from feeling supported, connected, and rooted in a community that cares.
That’s why we’ll keep looking for ways to serve Longmont—whether by helping clients reach their housing goals or working alongside our neighbors to make our town stronger, more welcoming, and more vibrant for all.
